A GO-assisted method for the preparation of ultrathin covalent organic framework membranes for gas separation

Abstract: A GO-assisted layer-by-layer restacking method was proposed to prepare ultrathin membranes of CTF-1 nanosheets with a high H2/CO2 separation performance.

“…Further investigations evaluate CTFs as membranes with high water permeability for desalination, dehydration of biofuel (e.g. EtOH) and gas separation . CTFs have even been discussed as carbon hard‐templates for the formation of hierarchical porous and crystalline γ‐Al 2 O 3 with surface areas of up to 349 m 2 g −1 …”

“…Encouraged by the above studies, intensive effort has been devoted to the synthesis of PIM analogues and the modification of PIM membranes for efficient H 2 separation and purification . For instance, Lau et al attempted to load PAF‐1 into PIM‐1 to form PAF‐1/PIM‐1 membranes in order to enhance H 2 permeability.…”

“…More work has been done to explore the applicability of microporous organic membranes in H 2 separations . According to Figure , many membranes (such as TPIM‐1, KAUST‐PI‐1 (KAUST : King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, PI : polyimide), PIM‐Trip‐TB, and PIM‐EA‐TB) exhibit excellent hydrogen separation performances with data points above the trade‐off line, which can be explained by the good balance between small pores and high surface areas of these membranes.…”

“…Zhong et al proposed a GO‐assisted layer‐by‐layer restacking method to fabricate ultrathin GO‐CTF‐1 composite membranes for gas separation . Favorable functional group interactions between GO and CTF‐1 nanosheets led to the formation of continuous and ultrathin GO‐CTF‐1 composite membranes (≈100 nm) with a narrow interlayer passages.…”
