A gravity slide in the lower coal measures at Swallow Craig, near Kirkconnel, Dumfries and Galloway

Abstract: Synopsis A NNW dipping listric normal fault affecting a 6 m stratigraphic interval and displaying evidence of syn-sedimentary activity is described from the Sanquhar Coalfield, and interpreted as a gravity slide.

“…The geometrical requirement to thin and extend the roll-over makes such compressional structures unlikely in simple cases and they probably only occur where flats are present in the footwall fault and where rotational strains are locally dominant. Such compressional structures are certainly seen in experimental systems and in small-scale growth faults and landslides (Crans et al 1980;Kirk 1982). At larger scales in areas such as the Viking Graben it is probable that their presence can be used to infer footwall ramps at depth although this remains to be demonstrated.…”

“…Contrasting with examples indicating movement on the regional tectonic faults, Kirk (1982) described Westphalian A gravity sliding near Kirkconnel (Sanquhar outlier, Fig. 1) that was stratigraphically restricted to one sedimentary cycle, and interpreted it as reflecting a local slope on a lake margin, with no regional significance.…”

“…Specifics regarding dimensions and material compositions of the components can be found in Table 1. [4][5][6][7] [2]- [5] Each component comprising the Inline Pulse Tube Cryocoolers (IPTC) exhibits a cylindrical configuration, with all elements arranged in series to from an axis-symmetric system. Consequently, the IPTC is represented in a 2-dimensional, axis-symmetrical coordinate framework.…”
