A hierarchical run-time adaptive resource allocation framework for large-scale MPSoC systems

Abstract: In the embedded computer system domain, MPSoC systems have become increasingly popular due to the ever-increasing performance demands of modern embedded applications. The number of processing elements in these MPSoCs also steadily increases. Whereas current MPSoCs still contain a limited number of processing elements, future MPSoCs will feature tens up to hundreds of (heterogeneous) processing elements that are all integrated on a single chip. On these future large-scale MPSoC systems, the mapping of applicati… Show more

“…An adaptive approach for CPU-GPU SoC has recently been presented [28], but it considers only a single application at a time and only CPU or GPU for application execution. Other adaptive approaches have also been studied [29]- [32], but they consider only one type of core and mostly do not perform evaluation on a real mobile SoC [29], [30].…”

“…The resource dynamic management process is carried out by employing a centralized [Nollet et al 2008;Carvalho et al 2010;Ng et al 2015], distributed [Peter et al 2009;Kobbe et al 2011;Castilhos et al 2013], or hierarchical [Götzinger et al 2016;Quan and Pimentel 2016] approach. In centralized management, one core of the platform is used as the manager that handles the allocation process.…”

“…In [21], run-time adaptation consists in mapping long-lasting jobs onto a multi-processor systemon-chip architecture by making use of configurations elaborated at design-time. However, in our case the run-time management system operates in a non-periodic context by taking very frequent mapping decisions for computing jobs with a very limited duration.…”
