A Hierarchical Self-Assembly System Built Up from Preorganized Tripodal Helical Metal Complexes

Abstract: The hierarchical organization strategy has realized elaborate supramolecular structures that are difficult to achieve by a one-pot thermodynamically driven self-assembly. Self-assembly via Schiff base formation of the preorganized tripodal helical unit 2(2+), which is composed of the tris(bipyridyl) ligand 1 and octahedral metal ion (Ru(II) and Fe(II)), lead to two supramolecular structures, i.e., a macrobicyclic dimer and an interlocked helicate. Notably, the interlocked helicate had a unique motif with an el… Show more

“…Reversible imine bonds are often utilized for the construction of thermodynamically stable target products 1921 , and most of them were constructed by mixing aldehyde and amine building blocks 2224 . Here, H 6 1 was synthesized from a bifunctional monomer 3 possessing both o -aminophenol and 2-formylpyridine moieties (Fig.…”

“…Pyridyl moiety is probably the most popular building block for the construction of metal-organic networks due to its strong coordination ability to metal ions [25][26][27]. In recent years, bis(pyridylhydrazone) ligands are often used in the construction of novel supramolecular architectures and promising candidates for metallo-anion receptors.…”
