A highly selective fluorescent chemosensor for Cu2+: synthesis and properties of a rhodamine B‐containing diarylethene

Abstract: A diarylethene bearing a triazole-linked rhodamine B unit was synthesized. Its fluorescent emission was significantly enhanced in the presence of protons or Cu due to transformation from the pirocyclic form to open-ring form. The fluorescence was quenched sequentially upon irradiation with 297 nm light based on the intramolecular fluorescence resonance energy transfer mechanism. In an acetonitrile: water binary solvent (1: 1 v/v), the compound showed significant fluorescent enhancement for Cu compared with a w… Show more

“…[8][9][10][11] Therefore, it is imperative to develop a simple, rapid and sensitive analytical method for detecting Cu 2+ . Some uorescent sensors can identify metal ions selectively and colorimetrically 12,13 and have many advantages such as high selectivity and sensitivity, simple operation and low cost, making them attractive in the detection of Cu 2+ . [14][15][16][17][18][19] SO 2 is the main component of acid rain as it can be dissolved in neutral aqueous solution to form a mixed system with a HSO 3 À to SO 3 2À molar ratio of about 3 : 1.…”

“…Adding a fluorophore (or πconjugated systems) around the DTE core is frequently employed to facilitate fluorescence photoswitching. Conventional fluorophores such as perylenes, [33][34][35] naphthalimides, 36 BODIPY, 37 tetraphenylethene 38,39 and rhodamine, 40 have been attached to the DTE core for highperformance fluorescent photoswitches. 41 It is noted that the outstanding performances of these switches are demonstrated in the solvent states rather than in the solid states where such performances are expected to be lower.…”
