A Highly Sensitive Spectrophotometric Method for the Determination of Some Phenothiazine Antipsychotics Using Chloramine-T and Indigocarmine

Abstract: A new simple, accurate and precise spectrophotometric method for the determination of six phenothiazine drugs in pure form and in dosage forms is described. The method is based on the oxidation of the studied drugs by a known excess of Chloramine-T in hydrochloric acid medium and subsequent determination of the unreacted oxidant by reacting it with indigocarmine in the same acid medium. The reacted oxidant corresponds to the drug content. The colored species exhibits maximum absorption at 610 nm. , respectivel… Show more

“…Various techniques have been reported for the determination of TR, which include flow injection chemiluminescence (CL) (Kojlo et al, 2000;Li et al, 2007), spectrophotometric (Taha et al, 1983;Basavaiah and Swamy, 2001), spectrofluorimetric (Mohamed et al, -Kosior et al, 2006) and HPLC (Bhushan and Gupta, 2006). However, these methods suffer from disadvantages such as high costs, long analysis times and requirement for sample pretreatments, and in some cases, low sensitivity and selectivity that makes them unsuitable for the analysis of trace amounts of TR in pharmaceutical and clinical samples.…”

“…The versatility of Chloramine-T as an analytical reagent can be gauged by its applications in the titrimetric [27][28][29][30][31][32][33] and spectrophotometric [34][35][36][37][38][39][40] determination of many oragnic compounds of therapeutic importance. The use depends mainly on its ability to effect the oxidation of diverse functional groups.…”
