A hybrid intelligent system for the analysis of atmospheric pollution: a case study in two European regions

Abstract: The combined application of several soft-computing and statistical techniques is proposed for the characterization of atmospheric conditions in two European regions: Madrid (Spain) and Prague (Czech Republic). The resulting Hybrid Artificial Intelligence System (HAIS) combines projection models for dimensionality reduction and clustering, combining neural and fuzzy paradigms, in a decision support tool. In present article, this proposed HAIS is applied to analyse the air quality in these two geographical regio… Show more

“…Although this statement may be true in some cases, some other combinations of such methods have been previously proposed, different from this sequential application of methods. That is the case of [31,32], where the output of clustering methods (i.e., the assigned cluster for each data instance) is added to the projection obtained by EPP methods, that could be 2D or 3D. On the other hand, other authors have proposed [33,34] the simultaneous application of clustering and dimensionality-reduction methods.…”

“…In [13,14] EPP and clustering methods are also combined but from a different perspective; dimensionality reduction models, implemented as neural networks, have been applied to add the output of some clustering methods to the obtained projections, though different labels, colours, and symbols. As a result, 2D projections are generated, enriched with information about the number of the cluster assigned to each sample.…”
