A hybrid islanding detection method for distributed synchronous generators

Abstract: This paper proposes a new islanding detection method for use in a small-scale, grid-interconnected distributed generator system. The proposed islanding detection method is based on voltage fluctuation injection, which can be obtained through high-impedance load switching on the grid periodically. The correlation factor between the periodic switching signal and the perturbed voltage is then used as an islanding detection index in the proposed islanding detection method. Experimental results demonstrate the prin… Show more

“…High expense and low power quality of these methods make them unattractive d) Hybrid method These methods are a combination of active and passive methods. They are complex and expensive [20], [21]. An important measure for the effectiveness of any islanding detection method is the Non-detection zone.…”

“…The hybrid methods involve two stages of detecting actions to overcome the problems of passive method and active method, in order to attain higher efficiency [39]. Throughout the detecting course of action, passive detection method is used as prime protection, and then the active detection method is implemented when the islanding is assumed through the passive method [13].…”

“…In particular, island detection techniques based on remote [4], passive [5], active [6], hybrid [7], and grid-reconnection detection techniques [8] have been explored and tested. In [9], an adaptive intentional islanding configuration based on the load states and generation availability in the system was proposed.…”
