A joint application of a genetic algorithm plus the minimal spanning tree for optimizing electrical energy systems

Abstract: This paper presents the application of a genetic algorithm (GA) in conjunction with a Minimal Spanning Tree (MST) algorithm, in order to allocate jointly capacitors and distributed generation to improve the operation of electrical energy systems. An appropriate selection of the fitness function provides a solution that is able to reduce power losses. Simulations on an IEEE benchmark demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed strategy.
