Achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 has become a common goal in the world. An effective strategy to reduce carbon emissions will be the key to maintaining international competitiveness. Although green energy exchange is mature around the world, the relevant systems and regulations in Taiwan are not yet ready. This research examines the feasibility of shoemaking machines remanufacturing and tries to seek effective strategies to achieve carbon neutrality for the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of shoemaking machines. The evaluation of remanufacturing in a shoemaking machine is based on imprecise and fuzzy information. First, the feasibility evaluation model of remanufacturing in a shoemaking machine is established, including technical, economic, and resource environment feasibility criteria. Second, the comprehensive benefit evaluation model of the remanufacturing shoemaking machine is established, in which the weight of each criterion is determined by the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Finally, combined with the questionnaire, the evaluation method is verified and analyzed. The results show that the four criteria (clusters) for remanufacturing shoemaking machines have different weights, in descending order: Product design, Business model, Recycling system, and Corporate image. This implies that Product design is the most important factor for remanufacturing shoemaking machines, followed by the Business model, Recycling system, and Corporate image. Therefore, to succeed in the circular economy, OEMs need to rethink how to redesign their products from the beginning and create a new business model.

This study investigates the markdown pricing strategies for a manufacturer and a retailer in a twoperiod dual-channel supply chain, where the manufacturer sells its products via its own direct channel and an independent retail channel to strategic consumers who may wait for markdowns. A two-period game is developed to systematically study the optimal regular prices and markdown prices under four cases, i.e., no markdown in both channels, markdown only in the direct channel, markdown only in the retail channel, and markdowns in both channels. By comparing the different cases, we find that the manufacturer benefits most from the case with markdowns in both channels, where the markdown rate of the retail channel is lower than that of the direct channel. On the other hand, the results indicate that the retailer may also profit most from the case with markdowns in both channels when the consumer acceptance of the direct channel is sufficiently high; otherwise, the retailer enjoys the highest profit under the case with markdown only in the retail channel. Finally, it is found that strategic consumer behavior has a positive impact on the retailer’s profit but a negative impact on the manufacturer’s profit.

Freight transportation plays a critical role in improving company performance in the modern manufacturing industry. To reduce costs, companies must take advantage of the use of large vehicles. It caused fewer deliveries, but inventory costs and degradation quality are high. One of the joint economic lot size (JELS) problems in supply chain is Integrated Single-Vendor Single-Buyer Inventory Problem (I-SVSB-IP). This study developed the I-SVSB-IP model that considers raw materials’ exponential quality degradation and transportation costs. The objective function of this research was to maximize the Joint Total Profit (JTP). Three decision variables used were inventory cycle time (T), raw material ordering frequency (m), and frequency of delivery of finished products to buyers (n). This study proposed a sophisticated Chimp Optimization Algorithm (ChOA) procedure to solve the I-SVSB-IP problem. A case study on the food industry in Indonesia was presented to optimize the I-SVSB-IP. The results showed that the ChOA procedure had produced an optimal solution compared to the state-of-the-art algorithm. This study also demonstrated a sensitivity analysis of decision and transportation variables to cost, revenue, and JTP. The results show that increasing transport frequency of ordering raw materials (m) and finished products to buyers (n) enhances the total cost and reduces joint total profit. In addition, increasing the rate of quality degradation of raw materials reduces JTP.
