A manufacturing model representation of a flexible manufacturing facility

Abstract: The manufacturing model is an information model that describes the manufacturing capability of a particular enterprise. To achieve general applicability, the model consists of the entities that are relevant and important for any type of manufacturing firm, namely: manufacturing resources (e.g. machines, tools, operators, etc.), manufacturing processes (e.g. machining processes, assembly, etc.) and manufacturing strategies (e.g. how these resources are organized and used). The manufacturing model is a four-leve… Show more

“…Zhao [24], building on Molina and Bell's earlier work [27,30] proposed that in the manufacturing data model, a manufacturing Facility can be considered to be either an As part of the EE project, TU's e-Commerce group determines that there should be a minimum 3000 units limit applied before price discounts are allowed for BqBook900 project's members on their product orders and this is expressed as the constraint Product This EE project example shows that each company has their own processes, databases, information and knowledge systems in place. Inevitably, each will also use their own languages and terminologies, which will have developed over a period of time through their working practices and experiences in particular industry sectors, the culture in their particular organization, and many other contributory factors.…”

“…The model consists of: Resources, Processes and Strategies. The understanding of a manufacturing resource is based on a fundamental hierarchical view: factory, shop, cell, station (Molina & Bell 1999 Harding and Yu develop a factory model, providing information about the capability of the proposed enterprise. Data warehousing contains information about the existing business (timings, inventory, breakdown history).…”

“…Descriptions should for example, be able to link product features and consumed materials to manufacturing processes. The Manufacturing Model [3,4] is similar to the MOKA Technology View, and includes an additional strategy class. This can be used to describe objectives separately from manufacturing processes and resources/materials (see figure 2).…”
