“…Despite all such concerns about maritime transportation and life at sea, a review of the literature was conducted from databases of major scientific journals (“CAPES Portal de Periódicos,” a Brazilian national electronic library that aggregates high quality content; and Google Scholar) that resulted in 12 recent published research studies on methodologies for maritime risk assessment (MRA) (Baksh, Abbassi, Garaniya, & Khan, 2018; Cem Kuzu, Akyuz, & Arslan, 2019; Cho, Lee, & Moon, 2018; Goerlandt & Montewka, 2015; Gul, Celik, & Akyuz, 2017; IMO, 2018; John, Yang, Riahi, & Wang, 2016; Lam & Lassa, 2017; Martins, Pestana, & Droguett, 2020; Vander Hoorn & Knapp, 2015; Zhang et al., 2016; Zhang, Yan, Zhang, Yang, & Wang, 2016), and none of these focus on risk assessment in ports based on meteo‐oceanographic (MO) data integrated with the pilots’ knowledge in ship handling, as is the case of our work. This is surprising, basically for two reasons.…”
