A Microporous Hydrogen-Bonded Organic Framework: Exceptional Stability and Highly Selective Adsorption of Gas and Liquid

Abstract: An extremely stable hydrogen-bonded organic framework, HOF-8, was fabricated. HOF-8 is not only thermally stable but also stable in water and common organic solvents. More interestingly, desolvated HOF-8 exhibits high CO2 adsorption as well as highly selective CO2 and C6H6 adsorption at ambient temperature.

“…Unfortunately, highly porous crystal structures of discrete molecules are rare and difficult to predict a priori 7 ; furthermore, even when a small molecule can be organized into a porous structure, such structures are typically fragile after solvent removal. Recent work by Chen 8,9 , Cooper 10-12 , Mastalerz [13][14][15][16][17][18][19] and others [20][21][22] , has resulted in molecular crystals characterized by high porosity. These noncovalently held structures can be intrinsically or extrinsically porous.…”

“…In the last two decades, the design and synthesis of supramolecular polymeric networks, especially those constructed by hydrogen bonding and intermolecular weak interactions have been a eld of rapid growth due to their special physical properties and potential application in functional materials [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Most of these materials are constructed by organic bridging ligand.…”

“…They are reproducible, thermally stable, and resilient upon undergoing dynamic processes [1][2][3][4]. Thus, the investigation of compounds produced by the spontaneous aggregation among low-dimensional polymers through the intermolecular weak interactions may be a fascinating subject, that is worth studying.…”
