A Mixed Reality System for Kansei-Based Co-Design of Highly-Customized Products

Abstract: We designed a new Computer-Aided Design tool that can be easily and intuitively used by non-expert designers, like users of the products being designed. The target application is the design of highly-customized products together with the final users, more specifically the design of walking assistive devices with mobility-impaired people. The tool has simultaneously been developed with an ad-hoc protocol for an accurate evaluation of the satisfaction of users, through questionnaires and psychophysiological meas… Show more

“…Organic combination with mobile digital terminal is becoming a trend of personalized customization. Arrighi et al [ 33 ] explored an online customized VR design tool for user participation, which allowed users to modify a product prototype directly on a 3D view without having to prototype the product at an early stage of design, thus promoting collaboration between users and designers. Bachvarov [ 34 ] realized the users’ participation in product customization through HMD.…”

“…A definição das TUIs está relacionada diretamente ao Continuum da realidade -virtualidade de Milgram et al (1994), encontrando-se dentro do espectro da Realidade Mista e podendo ser considerada como virtualidade aumentada (Figura 2). Nesta configuração, existe a possibilidade de mapear elementos virtuais vinculados a objetos físicos reais manipulados pelo usuário (ARRIGHI et al, 2016).…”

“…[1,8,16,28] etc. These advances have helped in decreasing the knowledge-gap between design engineers and endusers, allowing end-users to be active participants in the Product Design Process (PDP) [4]. Knowledge-gap is a result of ineptness of end-users in terms of technical skills/understanding required in PDP.…”
