Information-centric networking (ICN) and its fruition, the named data networking (NDN) is a paradigm shift from host-centric address-based communication architecture to the content-centric namebased one. ICN intends to resolve various major issues faced by today's internet architecture such as privacy, security, consistent routing, and mobility, to name a few. With the massive increase of mobile data traffic in today's era, mobility is one of the major concerns in networking. On the one hand, ICN realization i.e., the NDN follows a pull-based communication model and natively supports the consumer (end-user) mobility in wired networks by maintaining the forwarding states on intermediate nodes. Nevertheless, the mobile consumer nodes confront issues in wireless networking environments such as excessive energy consumption as a result of request flooding, content retrieval delays due to intermittent connectivity, and bandwidth consumption due to the broadcasting nature of the wireless medium, among others. The producer (contentgenerator) mobility, on the other hand, was not initially supported in the original architectural design of NDN for both wired and wireless networks. Therefore, to efficiently address the degradation issues incurred by mobile consumer/producer nodes, a plethora of mobility management schemes have been proposed over the recent few years. In this paper, we provided a detailed survey on the existing research efforts-in the context of producer as well as consumer mobility, that have been proposed in the literature. Moreover, we outlined various research directions considering the role of mobility in futuristic technologies such as artificial intelligence-enabled smart networks, edge computing, software-defined networking, vehicular-fog computing, autonomous driving, and resource-constrained Internet of Things.INDEX TERMS Named data networking, mobility management, producer mobility, wireless networking, artificial intelligence, edge computing, vehicular fog computing, autonomous driving. An Information-Centric Network (ICN) provides a promising paradigm for the upcoming internet architecture, which will struggle with steady growth in data and changes in access models. Various ICN architectures have been designed, including Named Data Networking (NDN), which is designed around content delivery instead of hosts. As data is the central part of the network. Therefore, NDN was developed to get rid of the dependency on IP addresses and provide content effectively. Mobility is one of the major research dimensions for this upcoming internet architecture. Some research has been carried out to solve the mobility issues, but it still has problems like handover delay and packet loss ratio during real-time video streaming in the case of consumer and producer mobility. To solve this issue, an efficient hierarchical Cluster Base Proactive Caching for Device Mobility Management (CB-PC-DMM) in NDN Vehicular Networks (NDN-VN) is proposed, through which the consumer receives the contents proactively after handover during the mobility of the consumer. When a consumer moves to the next destination, a handover interest is sent to the connected router, then the router multicasts the consumer's desired data packet to the next hop of neighboring routers. Thus, once the handover process is completed, consumers can easily get the content to the newly connected router. A CB-PC-DMM in NDN-VN is proposed that improves the packet delivery ratio and reduces the handover delay as well as cluster overhead. Moreover, the intra and inter-domain handover handling procedures in CB-PC-DMM for NDN-VN have been described. For the validation of our proposed scheme, MATLAB simulations are conducted. The simulation results show that our proposed scheme reduces the handover delay and increases the consumer's interest satisfaction ratio. The proposed scheme is compared with the existing stateof-the-art schemes, and the total percentage of handover delays is decreased by up to 0.1632%, 0.3267%, 2.3437%, 2.3255%, and 3.7313% at the mobility speeds of 5 m/s, 10 m/s, 15 m/s, 20 m/s, and 25 m/s, and the efficiency of the packet delivery ratio is improved by up to 1.2048%,

Mobile data traffic has increased significantly due to the evolution of wireless communication technologies. The Information Centric Network paradigm is considered as an alternative to bypass the restrictions imposed by the traditional IP networks, especially those related with the mobility of its users. Despite the potential advantages of this paradigm regarding mobile wireless environments, several research challenges remain unaddressed, more specifically, the ones related with the communication damage caused by handovers. This work presents a Named Data Network (NDN) based solution that supports Consumer mobility. The proposed scheme addresses a mobility manager entity that monitors and anticipates trajectories, while compelling the infrastructure to adjust to the new paths. This process results in an efficient way to manage the Consumers' mobility, and therefore, in a better quality of service to its users. The implementation and evaluation of the proposed solution uses the ndnSIM, through functional and nonfunctional scenarios, and with real traces of urban vehicular mobility and connectivity. The results show that the proposed solution is superior to the native NDN workflow with respect to content delivery ratio and number of timeouts.
