A Mobility Link Service for NDN Consumer Mobility

Abstract: Named Data Networking (NDN) supports the consumer mobility service by letting a consumer reissue an interest. This method is straightforward, but it may cause several drawbacks, including unnecessary handover overhead and long handover delay. We concentrate on the NDN communication model in which the pair of an interest and a data packet is considered a single communication working set (i.e., transaction unit). In this respect, reissuing an interest means creating a new transaction due to the connection damage… Show more

“…This scheme helps to maintain a seamless connection after the consumer handover; however, the control messages increase the overhead in the network, and hence, reducing the overall network performance. To reduce the network overhead, the authors proposed an improved version by reducing the control messages [104]. In this proposed work, the authors used two types of control messages named 1) MLS fragment message and 2) status report message.…”

“…Cha et al [8] present an NDN communication model for user mobility in which interest and data packets are communicated through a single transaction unit. The author proposed a Mobility Link Service (MLS) working in NDN to establish the connection for transactions.…”

“…In NDN, the Consumer mobility is easily provided by the retransmission of an Interest. Despite the simplicity of how the mobility concern is handled, there are some drawbacks [5]:…”

“…In [5], Mobility Link Service (MLS) supports Consumer mobility by the means of content fragmentation and content retransmission. MLS uses a status report message to inform the previous NAR about the status of the transaction, such as the connection information that is changed after the handover of the mobile Consumer, used to request the retransmission of a fragment message.…”
