“…Another logistic regression model [105] using five independent factors, namely HE, HRS, liver cirrhosis, HBeAg, and PTA, gave an AUC of 0.873, as compared to a MELD AUC of 0.694.…”

“…Although TBIL serves as a serum marker of liver dysfunction and contributes to MELD score, we did not find significant differences of TBIL levels between the non-survivor and survivor groups in our present study (data not shown). This finding might be attributed to the fact that MELD scoring is more sensitive than TBIL alone in predicting the severity and prognosis of acute liver failure [35,36]. In a word, these results suggested that Th17 cells might be responsible partly for the high morbidity and mortality recorded in ACHBLF patients.…”

“…Currently there are increasing models including MELD-Na, APACHE II and SOFA, etc., established for the prognosis of liver failure. However, the MELD scoring system is still widely accepted in most countries as up-to-date and thus we used MELD scoring in our present study [34][35][36]. We found that Th17 cell frequency was positively correlated with MELD scores, suggesting Th17 cells as a marker of severity of ACHBLF.…”

“…T lymphocytes and serum cortisol level and MELD score. Although many new models have been established [23][24][25], the MELD scoring system is still widely accepted and used in predicting prognosis of liver failure. These results strongly suggested the potential role of GR in the severity of ACHBLF.…”

“…Moreover, jaundice and PTA are considered essential criteria for the diagnosis of acute-on-chronic liver failure. Although many new models have been established [23][24][25], MELD scoring system is still widely accepted and used in predicting prognosis of liver failure up to date. To confirm the association between GR expression and disease severity in ACHBLF patients, linear correlation analysis was performed.…”
