A modern view on the complement system

Abstract: Complement is a part of the immune system which provides host cells with protection against pathogen cells and particles. It is activated when a pathogen invasion is detected. The results of numerous investigations have led to growing realization of the important role of this system in maintaining normal organism homeostasis. This review summarizes a modern view on the complement system.
