A Modified Boost-Boost High Gain DC-DC Converter for Photovoltaic (PV) Based Off- Grid Applications

Abstract: This study presents a single switch non-isolated DC-DC converter good for photovoltaic (PV) applications. The proposed topology was constructed using two classical DC-DC boost converters by arranging them in cascade for providing high voltage gain, low duty-cycle, less stress across the semiconductor devices, less size, and low cost. The operating principle and steady-state analysis of an individual component of the proposed topology in continuous conduction mode (CCM) are discussed and the results obt… Show more

“…Lack of sufficient area for installation, low sunshine, shades of trees and tall buildings are some of the biggest threats affecting their performances [9,10]. Therefore, PV per voltage generation tends to be low in nature which is why the power converter technology is much-needed [5], [11,12]. This technology can be used to step up the low DC voltage generated by the PV panel into the desired output value [13,14].…”

“…The DC-DC power converters are of many types, transformerless and those with transformers [11]. The transformer types were deemed too expensive and higher voltage gain can be attained by two things, turn-ratio and duty-cycle of the transformer [10].…”

“…Today's global energy stock primarily comes from fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas which was key sources of greenhouse fumes. The Earth's climate will be compromised if Solar energy is one of the most underutilized among them, the experimenting the solar panels and photovoltaic cell are extremely important, This implies that solar photovoltaic (PV) has a great capacity for a variable energy economy, and the further development of PV panels technology becomes very critical for it to become a major electricity and energy resources [7]. One of the predominant element of solar panels is having low dc power which is not suitable for direct utilization by inverters [12].…”

“…In a photovoltaic (PV) system, the most visible part of the system is the PV panels. Panels can be mounted in open fields and building rooftops, and nowadays, PV cells are being integrated into the building materials themselves [7]. The PV cells convert solar energy into electric energyIn order to overcome potential instability issues, recent research has begun to focus on making the PV system more intelligent unit.…”
