A Modified Niching Crow Search Approach to Well Placement Optimization

Abstract: Well placement optimization is considered a non-convex and highly multimodal optimization problem. In this article, a modified crow search algorithm is proposed to tackle the well placement optimization problem. This article proposes modifications based on local search and niching techniques in the crow search algorithm (CSA). At first, the suggested approach is verified by experimenting with the benchmark functions. For test functions, the results of the proposed approach demonstrated a higher convergence rat… Show more

“…Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) [45], Crow Search Algorithm (CSA) [46] and Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) [47] were the chosen metaheuristics to be evaluated and evaluate the difficulty of the optimization problem. These metaheuristics were chosen because they perform well in engineering problems [48][49][50][51][52][53].…”

“…Modified CSA: In [143], Gholami et al used the advantages of the global optimal position and continuously moved it to the optimal position via an iterative process, which improved the convergence speed and local search ability of the algorithm. Islam et al [144] added local search and niching methods to enhance the search capabilities of the CSA. In [145], Wu et al introduced a novel CSA approach referred to as CCSA, in which a Lévy flight was used.…”

“…According to the differences in the pattern of MFHWs, there are mainly two types of well pattern for the Denglouku gas reservoir, which are parallel and zipper patterns. The zipper pattern can be divided into two further types, which are rows and columns of the zipper well pattern [41,42]. To compare the production performance of infilling wells for diverse well patterns, according to the geological characteristics and the techniques of drilling and completing for the Denglouku gas reservoir, a typical well group is selected, and the basic parameters of numerical simulation for the above-mentioned well pattern are determined (see Table 1).…”
