A Modified Technique of Using the S-Quattro External Finger Fixation System- A Case Report

Abstract: SUMMARYFractures of the phalangeal joints of the hand present a challenging problem because of the small size of the fracture fragments, limiting internal fixation, and their articular nature necessitating early mobilisation to ensure good results. We present a case of a patient presenting with an open displaced intraarticular fracture of the metacarpophalangeal joint that was managed with limited internal fixation with a Kirschner wire along with the Dynamic External Finger Fixation System (S-Quattro). The fr… Show more

“…Once these injuries are identified it is important that the treatment is timely, appropriate and evidence-based. Although the soft tissue is the more involved site, fractures should be managed appropriately, and there is a place in the management of these open fractures for external fixation [44, 45]. In addition, it is important to assess the outcome of these injuries using more objective measures that should include patient reported outcome measures [46, 47].…”

“…We systematically practice excision of the inoculation site, joint irrigation for arthritis stage 1, synovectomy and stabilization with external fixation for stage 2, arthrectomy and stabilization by external fixation for osteoarthritis. For stabilization in the arthritis, We prefer the Beaubourg's external fixation because of its simplicity, availability and cost [ 12 ].…”
