A naphthalimide–quinoline based probe for selective, fluorescence ratiometric sensing of trivalent ions

Abstract: A new naphthalimide-quinoline based probe (NAQ) is designed and synthesized and its structure is confirmed through single crystal analysis. It detects the trivalent ions (Fe 3+ or Al 3+ or Cr 3+ ) selectively among other alkali and transition metal ions studied. NAQ shows a distinct ratiometric fluorescence behavior upon addition of trivalent metal ions in CH 3 v/v, pH = 7.4). This fluorogenic sensing of NAQ to M 3+ (M 3+ = Fe 3+ or Al 3+ or Cr 3+ ) can be observed by the naked eye, when illuminated under the… Show more

“…Goswami et al [48] came up with a naphthalimide-quinoline based probe 22, for the exclusive recognition of trivalent metal ions; Fe 3+ , Al 3+ and Cr 3+ . The ICT efficiency of the chemosensor was altered after complex formation with these metal ions and hence, it portrayed distinct fluorescent ratiometric behavior.…”

“…However, development of fluorescence ratiometric probes for metal ions has attracted a great deal of attention since they allow the measurement of emission intensities at two different wavelengths. Though many ratiometric chemosensors are reported [14][15][16][17], only a few sensors based on both colorimetric and ratiometric sensing have been reported for detection of Al 3 þ [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25]. In this work, we designed a ratiometric probe (receptor 1) that displayed a selective colorimetric change and high ratiometric signals toward Al 3 þ among the other examined metal ions.…”

“…There is a lot of organic molecules that are fluorescent, but so many factors that affect the fluorescence still make the research to seek for more effective fluorescent molecules [2,10].…”
