A New Acetophenone Derivative and other Constituents from Senecio Vulgaris

Abstract: A new acetophenone derivative, 5-acetyl-2-(2-hydroxyisopropyl)-7-(3,3-dimethylallyl)-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran, has been isolated from the whole plants of Senecio vulgaris. Its structure was established on the basis of spectroscopic methods.

“…[1][2][3] We have previously described the use oxyallenes, has been explored and the dramatic effect of the alkoxy group on the regioselectivity of Pd 0 -catalysed coupling reactions has been demonstrated. [23] Dihydrobenzofuran-containing natural products have been reported to exhibit activity against cancer, [24][25][26] tuberculosis, [27] malaria [28] and cataracts, [29] and others show antioxidant and/ or cytoprotective properties [30] as well as insecticidal activity. [15] The palladium-catalysed methodologies affording five-and sixmembered fused heterocycles have recently been reviewed, [16] and, of the described strategies, the multistep syntheses of natural products and the development and use of multiple palladium-catalysed transformations performed in a domino fashion, occupy a special position.…”
