A new approach for load flow calculation in AC/DC distribution networks considering the control strategies of different converters

Abstract: Summary Utilization of AC/DC distribution networks has become more reasonable because of the recent developments in power electronic devices and increasing employment of DC electronic loads. In this paper, load flow calculation problem in AC/DC distribution networks is addressed. Because a large number of load buses in both AC and DC parts and high R/X ratios in the AC part of these networks can lead to the divergence of recent Jacobian matrix based methods, in this paper, a new direct approach based on backwa… Show more

“…The VSC-HVDC system can provide flexible power control, and facilitate power grid interconnection and the integration of distributed generations. Owing to these features, VSC-HVDC system-based flexible dc distribution networks have been attracting more and more interest in recent years [4][5][6]. The VSC-HVDC system shows great potential for wide-scale application in future power transmission system and power distribution network.…”

“…Traditionally, the topology of the AC/DC converter is usually reported to select two-and three-level unidirectional converters to save the cost. 11,12 However, the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the AC current is increased and thus the power quality is decreased. Therefore, the VIENNA-based rectifier topology is emerging and becomes popular due to the advantages of simple structure, low input current THD, low voltage stress, etc.…”

“…The VSC‐MVDC system can provide flexible power control and facilitate power grid interconnection and the integration of distributed generations (DG). It is expected to solve problems such as power supply capability insufficiency, difficulty in the integration of DG, and powering MVDC loads, which is faced by ac distribution network . However, operating conditions of the grid often change drastically.…”
