A New Approach to Permian System in the Section of Gahkum Mountain (Zagros-Iran)

Abstract: The deposits of Permian system in Kuh-e-Gahkum consist of 480 m clastic subdiffusion of Faraghan Formation and carbonates of Dalan Formation. In this section, the sediments of Faraghan Formation, which is gradationally overlain by Dalan formation, unconformably overlies Zakin Formation (Lower Carboniferous). In the upper part, Kangan Formation rests on the Permian deposits with an erosional and unconformable contact. Studying the microscopic thin sections led to the identification of 37 genera and 37 species o… Show more

“…Therefore, from the 300 to 273 Ma Lagar and Angjie formations to the 273 to 252 Ma Xiala Formation, the depositional environment changed from littoral to neritic, indicating a transgressive sequence. Similar Roadian–Wordian transgressive sequences have also been widely reported in Turkey (Stolle et al ., 2011), Oman on the Arabian Plate (Angiolini et al ., 2003, 2004; Chauvet et al ., 2009), Zagros (Abedini et al ., 2017; Kordi, 2019; Alipour et al ., 2021), the Ritu area in the South Qiangtang Terrane (Zhang et al ., 2019; Fan et al ., 2021a), the Sinuowushan area in the Himalayas (Xu et al ., 2010) and the Baoshan Terrane (Ueno, 2003; Zhang et al ., 2013; Huang et al ., 2015, 2017). These extensive Roadian–Wordian transgressions extend over 6000 km in scale, and occurred as the global sea‐level decreased (Haq & Schutter, 2008), indicating widespread tectonic subsidence in these regions (Fig.…”
