“…Our research focuses on the exploration of under investigated polycarboxylic acid blocks for the design of new CPs. 12,13 Herein, we have chosen 5,5′-(ethene-1,2-diyl)diisophthalic acid (Scheme 1), namely (H 4 L), and explored its potential application in the hydrothermal generation of Co( ii )-based CPs. In order to select H 4 L as a principal block, the below characteristics have been considered: 14–16 (1) this carboxylic acid shows eight possible coordination sites (eight carboxylate oxygen donors), which can generate diverse coordination modes; (2) the H 4 L linker shows two aromatic rings that cannot rotate or twist to inhibit the generation of the interpenetration mode due to a rigid and full framework; and (3) the coordination chemistry of this building block is still unexplored.…”
