A new experience mining approach for improving low carbon city development

Abstract: Developing low carbon city (LCC) has been widely appreciated as an important strategy for sustainable development. In line with this, an increasing number of cities globally have launched low carbon practices in recent years and gained various types of experience. However, it appears that existing studies do not present methods of how to use these valuable LCC experience in solving new problems. This study therefore introduces an experience mining approach to assist decision-makers in reusing previous experien… Show more

“…Governmental policies can guide producers' waste management behavior (Bao, Lu, Chi, Yuan, & Hao, 2019; Halkos & Petrou, 2018; Liu, Gong, Wang, Lai, & Zhu, 2019; McCauley, 2015; Wei, Li, Liu, & Wu, 2019; Yuan & Yang, 2020; Zhang et al, 2019). To promote C&D waste management, relevant policies have been implemented in many countries (Ajayi & Oyedele, 2018; Bao & Lu, 2020; Chen & Lu, 2017; Di Maria, Eyckmans, & Van Acker, 2018; Tam & Lu, 2016; Wang, Wu, Tam, & Zuo, 2019; Wu et al, 2020; Wu, Zuo, Yuan, Zillante, & Wang, 2020). “…It is no secret that a significant cohort of both foreign and domestic politicians, scientists and practitioners have been actively working on the issue of low-carbon production for more than a year (Foxon, 2011;Liu, et al, 2020;Liu, Xu, & Hao, 2021;Lu, & Sun, 2021;Shuai, et al, 2019;Zhangping, & Yintai, 2008;Zhang, et al, 2019;Wu, et al, 2020;Taghizadeh-Toosi, & Olesen, 2016;Nyambuu, & Semmler, 2020;Zhan, & de Jong, 2018;Slobodianyk, & Abuselidze, 2019). In particular, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasizes that existing climate threats, biodiversity crises and environmental pollution require humanity to reflect on the true value of nature.…”

“…In terms of the control variables, the estimated coefficients of POP, PGDP, TEC, and URB, based on the SYS‐GMM and D‐GMM methods, show similar signs and significance, again verifying the robustness of the estimation. As the results show, population, economic development, and urbanization level have positive effects on CO 2 emissions; while a higher technology level has a significant inhibiting effect on global CO 2 emissions (Khan et al, 2020; Wu et al, 2020). A larger population size will increase the burden of energy consumption in a country (Dong, Hochman, Zhang, et al, 2018), and thus produce more carbon emissions, especially in countries with relatively low energy consumption efficiency.…”
