A New Friction Damper to Enhance Energy Dissipation Capacity of Prestressed Concrete Structures

Abstract: This paper summarizes a friction damper developed in the authors' previous experimental study, and mainly discusses its numerical modeling based on the major findings from the tests. Seismic behavior of a prestressted concrete beam with the friction damper was theoretically represented using simple numerical models. As a result, it was verified that the experimental results, in particular the beam behavior with low to medium damper forces, could be simulated well by the proposed method.
