A new, highly water-soluble, fluorescent turn-on chemodosimeter for direct measurement of hydrogen sulfide in biological fluids

Abstract: A new reaction-based fluorescent reporter for H2S has been developed based on 8-aminopyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonate. This reporter shows high selectivity for H2S over other ions and thiols, and can detect H2S directly in serum without additives.

“…These fluorescent probes for H 2 S are based on specific chemical reactions by taking advantage of the reducing or nucleophilic properties of H 2 S. In accordance with the fluorophores, the reported probes are mainly derived from rhodamine [19], fluorescein [20], dansyl [21], BODIPY [22], naphthalimide [23], resorufamine [24], NBD, [25], BMF, [26], coumarin [27,28], cresyl violet [29], genetically encoded fluorescent protein [30], pyrene [31], DCDHF [32], DCMC [33] and phenanthroimidazole [34]. By attaching a sub-cellular targetable group, fluorescent probes can image H 2 S in specific regions of cells, like mitochondria [35] and lysosomes [36].…”

“…67 Wu et al 108 reported colorimetric and ratiometric uorescent probes 45-47 based on an ICT strategy for the detection of H 2 S. The reaction of probe 45 with H 2 S in DMF triggered the chemoselective reduction of the nitro group to the amine with a color change from red to green. However, on the addition of H 2 S, the uorescence intensity of the probe decreased at 602 nm and a concomitant increase at 482 nm (l ex ¼ 397 nm) with a blue shi of 120 nm was observed.…”
