The aim of this study was to determine the distribution of benthic foraminifera in some field of the Turkish Aegean coasts have been investigated and the effects of ecological changes observed on these fauna in 2009-2014 period. Sediment samples from Alibey and Maden Islands (Balıkesir), Kuşadası (Aydın), Çeşme Ilıca Bay (Izmir) and northwestern coast of Karaburun Peninsula (Izmir) have been analysed. Similarities, as well as dissimilarities were observed between the assemblages from different locations. The Red Sea orginated alien foraminifer Amphistegina lobifera Larsen was found to form a very dense population around the south and west part of a submarine spring water in Kuşadası, where as it was replaced by Ammonia compacta Cushman and Elphidium crispum (Linné) assemblages on the northern and eastern parts. Euthymonacha polita (Chapman) has been first recorded in Kuşadası and it is also abundant in the Ilıca Bay. The Red Sea originated Coscinospira acicularis (Batsch) has also been first recorded in the Mediterranean from Ilıca Bay. Presence of the individuals with colored tests indicates the presence of heavy metals in spring waters. Aberrant aperture morphologies observed in some of the Vertebralina striata d'Orbigny individuals attracts attention. Therefore, abundance of individuals with colored tests, morphological deformities or togetherness, as well as the Red Sea originated species have indicated the special environmental and ecological conditions around the submarine springs. The main reasons for these ecological changes are salinity changes, the presence of heavy metals, thermal springs and cold-water springs. It is noteworthy that there is a different benthic foraminiferal living due to physical and chemical changes in the regions where different ecological conditions develop around the submarine thermal / cold water springs observed in these coastal regions.

In foraminifera, so-called "double tests" usually arise due to abnormal growth originating mainly from twinning, but may also be caused by irregularities in the early chambers and by regeneration after test injury that modifies the direction of growth. A fourth cause of double tests has only rarely been reported: the fusion of the tests of two adult individuals. We studied an early Eocene Nummulites double test consisting of two adult individuals that fused after an extended period of independent growth. The specimen was studied using computed tomography with micrometric resolution (micro-CT) that allowed bi-and three-dimensional visualization of the internal structure. Before fusion each individual test had 30-36 chambers, which, by comparison with growth rates in recent nummulitids, implies at least three months of independent growth. After fusion, the compound test grew in two spirals that fused after about one whorl and then continued in a single spiral.To fuse their tests, either adult individuals have to be forced to do so or the allorecognition (ability to distinguish between self and another individual) mechanisms must fail. A possible explanation for the merged Nummulites tests in this study is forced fusion in attached individuals after surviving ingestion and digestion by a metazoan. Alternatively, environmental stress could lead to a failure of allorecognition mechanisms and/or foraminiferal motility. Once fused, subsequent growth seems to be determined mainly by the relative orientation of individual tests. In any case, the frequency in which adult fusion occurs remains unknown.

ÖZ Doğu Ege Denizi (Türkiye) ve Midilli Adası (Yunanistan) kıyılarında belirlenmiş olan veya belirli noktalarda foraminifer topluluklarının sunduğu renklenme, yabancı foraminiferlerin varlığı ve şekil bozukluğu gibi farklı özellikleri nedeniyle varlığı düşünülen sıcak su çıktıları çevresinde yapılmış olan araştırmalarda Coscinospira hemphrichii, Euthymonacha polita, Peneroplis pertusus, P. planatus, Amphisorus hemprichii, Sorites orbiculus, S. variabilis, Cymbaloporetta plana, C. squammosa ve Amphistegina lessonii, A. lobifera gibi yabancı bentik foraminiferlerin yayılımında büyük farklılıkların olduğu gözlenmiştir. Kuşadası Körfezi sıcak su çıktısı etrafında gözlenen foraminifer topluluğu oldukça zengin denilebilecek yabancı cins ve türlere sahiptir. Doğanbey Körfezi topluluğu ise bu özellik açısından fazla zengin değildir. Karaburun Yarımadası, Ilıca Koyu'nda ise farklı bir durum ile karşılaşılmıştır. Yabancı topluluğu içinde Ege Denizi için karakteristik bir foraminifer olan Amphistegina lobifera yoktur. Buna karşın Karaburun Yarımadası kuzeybatısından alınmış olan güncel çökel örnekleri bol denilebilecek sayıda Amphistegina lobifera içermektedir. Daha kuzey alanda Aliağa çevresindeki Ilıca Burnu'nda birbirine yakın iki noktada 40°C ve 51°C sıcak su çıktısı bulunmaktadır. Alınmış olan 13 örnekte Amphistegina lobifera dışında Peneroplis pertusus, P. planatus, Amphisorus hemprichii ve Sorites orbiculus gibi Ege Denizi için karakteristik olan cins ve türlere ait herhangi bir bireye rastlanılmamıştır. Elde edilen bulgular ile daha önce çalışılmış olan Kuşadası, Doğanbey, Karaburun Yarımadası kuzeybatısı gibi alanlarda varılan sonuçlar karşılaştırıldığında büyük bir farkın varlığı ortaya çıkmaktadır. Adı geçen üç bölgede gözlenmiş olan Peneroplis pertusus, P. planatus, Coscinospira hemprichii, Sorites orbiculus ve Amphistegina lobifera bireylerine Aliağa örneklerinde rastlanılmamıştır. Bu durum Ege Denizi'ndeki bazı noktalarda çok farklı ekolojik koşulların varlığı veya eksikliği nedeniyle gerçekleşmiş olabilir. Örnek olarak Çeşme Ilıca Koyu gösterilebilir. Burada 28.4 o C sıcak su çıktısının varlığına karşın Amphistegina lobifera dışında yukarıda adı geçen diğer bentik foraminiferler bulunmuştur. Hâlbuki Kuşadası Körfezi, Ilıca Koyu ve Karaburun Yarımadası KB'da oldukça fazla sayıda denilebilecek güney Pasifik ve Kızıldeniz kökenli Euthomonacha polita ile Coscinospira acicularis bireylerine rastlanılmıştır. Aliağa Ilıca Burnu'ndaki 51 o C ve 40 o C sıcaklık sunan 2 sıcak su kaynağı çevresinde ise adı geçen 5 bentik foraminifer ile diğer yabancı foraminiferlerin bulunmayışı bu cins ve türlerin yaşam koşulları için belirli bir sıcaklık değeri olması gerektiğini ve Ilıca Burnu kaynaklarındaki değerin çok yüksek olduğunu düşündürür, Bu verilere göre farklı cins ve türler değişik ekolojik koşulların etkisinde kalarak yaşamlarını devam ettirebilirler veya yaşama imkanını bulamazlar.
