A new procedure for preparation of polyethylene glycol-grafted magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles

Abstract: Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MNPs) have been widely explored for use in biomedical applications. In the present study, iron oxide nanoparticles were connected to methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG) via a new method. The mPEG was acrylated at first and Michael reaction was carried out between acrylated mPEG and 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane as a coupling agent. The chemical structures of modified mPEG were characterized by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance. In… Show more

“…Thus among the three kinds of molar content of folate groups, FA‐F127‐PCL nanoparticles with 10% molar content of folate group possess the best anticancer activity. These results were similar to the published data . These could be because that too much molar content of folate groups on the surface of nanoparticles would restrict the targeting ability of nanoparticles over the cancer cells due to the stereo‐hindrance effect.…”

“…Too low FA ligand density may decrease the targeting effect of nanoparticles. However, too high FA ligand density may make FA‐conjugated nanoparticles affect normal cells . Thus, the effect of FA ligand density on the targeting ability of FA‐Pluronic‐PCL copolymers has also been explored.…”

“…Interestingly, PEG can influence changes in magnetic response of superparamagnetic materials. It has been reported, especially for NPs that have been synthetized in the presence of PEG, that there was an increase in magnetic moment of such materials . However, the use of PEG in this study was as a coating once the NPs were incorporated into the BC to confer biocompatibility of the IONP.…”
