A New Switched State Jump Observer for Traffic Density Estimation in Expressways Based on Hybrid-Dynamic-Traffic-Network-Model

Abstract: When faced with problems such as traffic state estimation, state prediction, and congestion identification for the expressway network, a novel switched observer design strategy with jump states is required to reconstruct the traffic scene more realistically. In this study, the expressway network is firstly modeled as the special discrete switched system, which is called the piecewise affine system model, a partition of state subspace is introduced, and the convex polytopes are utilized to describe the combinat… Show more

“…one of the first and key jobs is to establish mixed traffic flow model. The highway network will be as the example to study the observability of mixed traffic flow system, based on modeling methods and results proposed in literature [4][5][6][7][8][9][15][16][17], the mixed traffic flow model is described in the following.…”

“…The observability algorithm on highway segments was presented to placed traffic sensors efficiently to maximize the information collected [3]. Based on the traffic flow model, the optimized placement of traffic sensor network and the observability analysis were also studied [4][5][6][7][8][9]. Many other similar approaches were also applied [10][11][12][13][14].…”

“…Switched systems consisting of several subsystems and a switching policy ruling the switching among them [1,2] arise in certain application situations [3,4] such as a system which has to collect data sequentially from a number of sensory sources and switches its attention among the data sources [5,6]. The switching among subsystems complicates the control problems and many of the problems remain to be open such as the optimal control problems.…”
