A New Technique for Direct Fabrication of Fiber-Reinforced Composite Bridge: A Long-Term Clinical Observation

Abstract: The use of fiberglass in dentistry has increased due to the improvements in the development of adhesive techniques reducing the cost of treatment and avoiding abutment tooth craving. The present study aims to evaluate the clinical usefulness of the new technique to fabricate a direct fiber-reinforced composite bridge (FRCB) over a long period of time. Twenty-one FRCB were performed with the new direct technique on 21 patients with a mean age of 58.85 years and female predominance in the Faculty of Dentistry of… Show more

“…28,29 Minimal invaziv diş preparasyonu ile yüksek bağlanma dayanımına sahip olması, doğal dişler ile renk uyumunun kolay olması ve yüksek kırılma dayanımları nedeniyle adeziv köprü restorasyonlarında restoratif materyal olarak kullanılır. 30 Restorasyonlar, fiber ile güçlendirilen kompozit kor yapısını çevreleyen hibrit veya mikrodolduruculu kompozit rezin materyal yapısına sahiptir. 29 Dış kısımda bulunan kompozit veneer materyalin aşınmaya karşı dirençsiz olması, marjinal uyumun bozulması, renklenme ve fiberlerin ağız içi ortama açılması nedeniyle restorasyonların uzun dönem başarısı diğer materyallere göre kısıtlıdır.…”

“…However, it is important to note that in the real scenario, without simplifications, the FRC behaves as an anisotropic material, showing one value of stiffness for each coordinate axis in the 3D system [45,46]. Both models were fixed by the fact that the nodes of the resin cylinder (mesial, distal, and bottom surfaces) were equal in all directions, assuming x = y = z = 0 [26]. A compressive static load was vertically and occlusally applied at the mesial fossa, touching the buccal and lingual cusps [27].…”

“…In recent years, the indications for using polymers in dentistry as an alternative to ceramics have grown [25]. FRC materials have gained popularity because of their high fracture toughness associated with tooth-colored matching and the need for minimally invasive preparation [26]. Moreover, due to the anisotropic nature of FRCs, such RBFDPs could be considered more biomimetic options as opposed to other therapy options [25].…”
