A New Terbium Coordination Polymer Constructed from 4-Oxo-1(4H)quinolineacetate: Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Fluorescent Properties

Abstract

A new terbium complex, Tb(L) 2 ·2H 2 O [L = 4-oxo-1(4H)quinolineacetate] (1), has been synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, thermal analysis, and infraredspectroscopy,as well as single-crystal x-ray diffraction. Single-crystal x-ray analysis reveals that 1 is a three-dimensional supramolecular network built up from two-dimensional (2D) layers with the (4,4) net that is assembled via hydrogen bonding and π ···π stacking interactions. Furthermore, the solid-state photofluorescent property of complex 1 has also been investigated.Keywords crystal structure, fluorescence, H-bonding and π -π stacking interactions, 4-oxo-1(4H)quinolineacetate INTRODUCTIONLanthanide complexes with polycarboxylates have attracted much attention in past decades, due to the intriguing structural diversity of architectures [1−4] and potential applications in a wide range of functional materials, such as gas adsorption and separation, light conversion devices and luminescence probes, [5−11] etc. Up to now, numerous one-, two-, and threedimensional coordination polymers have been synthesized by the choice of appropriate metal ions and versatile bridging organic ligands. It is well known that the ligands with two or much more functional groups, such as -NO 2 , -COOH, -C=N, and so on, can be used to construct unusual metalorganic frameworks. [12][13][14][15] Furthermore, it has been thought that many novel properties and potential applications would emerge from unusual molecular structures. Therefore, much effort should be done to synthesize unusual complexes with useful physical-chemical properties and intriguing structural topologies. [16]
