A New Viscosity Sensing Platform for the Assessment of Polymer Degradation in EOR Polymer Fluids

Abstract: Polymer degradation during Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) can have large impact on recovery rates during polymer flooding. In the field, few practical solutions exist to perform quality control/assurance (QA/QC) on EOR polymer fluids at surface and no solutions exist for measurements downhole. Here, we present the development of a miniaturized sensor that can be used to detect the onset of polymer degradation by measuring the viscous properties of EOR polymer fluids. The device was tested on samples collected fro… Show more

“…Since the methods for maintaining reservoir pressure made it possible to significantly increase oil recovery compared to oil recovery of facilities developed in a natural regime, dispersed waterflooding systems, focal and by changing filtration flows, have been developed [11]. Other methods for maintaining reservoir pressure are also being created [12,13].…”

“…To solve this problem, there are two types of mathematical approach. So, in the fundamental book by Zheltov, and in all his other works, the following is done: the pressure This corresponds to the interior Dirichlet problem for a circle, well developed in mathematical physics [10,12].…”

“…Thus, the cyclical effect on an inhomogeneous reservoir in the presence of a dependence of permeability on pressure will give additional intensification and additional coverage of flooding due to the interaction of the nonlinearity of the process with its periodicity. Based on the review and practical application, the following conditions were formed [[11], [12]]:…”
