A New Wireless VoIP Signaling Device Supporting SIP and H.323 Protocols

Abstract: Nowadays, VoIP is a technology with a great demand and wireless networks are increasingly deployed. Each of these has its own technology constraints. For VoIP, it is very important to take into consideration the need to provide a high quality service according to well-defined standard transmission (jitter, end-to-end delay, MOS, and packet loss). However, wireless networks (IEEE 802.11) are based on radio which undergoes a number of technical constraints to achieve theoretical transmission rates; among these c… Show more

“…This communication technique is popular to many who are not new to using softphone application such as Skype, WhatsApp, Imo, Facebook and the like. VOIP offers less expenditure as well superior flexibility, management and support compared to the PSTN [22]. Hence, for this study, VOIP implementation using campus IP intranet was used to explore the most economical means of communication and exchanging information.…”

“…The SIP client softphone (Zoiper) was opted for the campus intranet VOIP solution as SIP is one of the most widely used voice signalling protocols developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force -IETF [26]. Furthermore, [22] mentions SIP forms the major basis as the standard signaling for IP networks to enable VOIP. Thus, PBX and network systems that do not support SIP would be replaced with SIP enabled PBX and network systems that are packet switched and IP enabled.…”

“…VOIP requires a signaling protocol to establish a connection between networks/devices, transmit data, and terminate the connection. Most VOIP applications support signaling protocols, such as session initiation protocol (SIP) and H.323 [ 1 ]. H.323 was developed by the ITU as a standard for routing between circuit-switched and packet-switched networks to tear down IP-originating calls to the PSTN.…”
