A Note on Frictional Slip Patterns

Abstract: A possible origin of the frictional travelling waves usually occuring between sliding interfaces is discussed: various solutions, including propagating wavetrains, pulses and fronts, can appear under rate-and-state friction from homoclinic or heteroclinic bifurcations.Introduction.
