The technological scene is developing towards employing tiny-sized devices. For a variety of functions that encompass sensing, identification, and decision-making. These devices are restricted in their resources to be secure. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has published the Ascon, a standard lightweight cryptography (LWC) algorithm for data gathered by restricted devices in 2023. The fundamental function of Ascon is the permutation function. The main core of the permutation function is the substitution box (S-box). This paper proposes an S-box based on chaotic systems using coupled map lattices (CML), which agrees with LWC algorithms due to its low complexity. The proposed S-box suggests high performance and security for restricted devices. The security robustness is tested using various cryptographic criteria, such as nonlinearity, strict avalanche criteria, and differential approximation probabilities. The proposed S-box approaches significant resistance to both linear and differential cryptanalysis. So, it could be replacing the substitution and linear diffusion layers of Ascon permutation to improve the nonlinearity and randomness.

Substitution boxes (S-Boxes) are essential elements of modern block ciphers, serving as nonlinear characteristics that enhance the resistance of these ciphers against cryptanalysis. This research presents a new approach for constructing lightweight S-Boxes that possess strong cryptographic characteristics by combining an enhanced logistic map and an enhanced sine map. The proposed novel algorithm has optimized multiple parameters according to the security threshold set. This study has conducted the most comprehensive evaluation of criteria for S-Boxes to date. The analysis results of the generated 4×4 and 5×5 S-Boxes have achieved optimal criteria in terms of the Strict Avalanche Criterion (SAC) and the Bit Independence Criterion (BIC) that no previous S-Boxes have achieved. Furthermore, parameters related to side-channel attack resistance have been optimized in the design stage of S-Boxes. The constructed S-Boxes with high security can be applied to replace S-Boxes of the same size in existing algorithms or to develop lightweight block cipher algorithms. PRC6: Hybrid lightweight cipher for enhanced cloud data security in parallel environment

Modern technologies of computing cloud are showing great promise, but at the same time create new security challenges that hinder full acceptance. Given that most of these services often use cloud networks as channels for communication, securing data transmission is crucial. This paper introduce a new hybrid encryption algorithm, the proposed two‐layered PRC6 cipher, tailored address security concerns in cloud computing environments with minimal resource constraints. The PRC6 cipher incorporates enhancements from Cha‐cha into an extension of the RC6 cipher. PRC6 implements double encryption. At the first level, the plain text is divided into four equal parts, each encrypted by processes derived from RC6, which include shifting, summation, modulo arithmetic, and XOR with a generated key. The second level incorporates a Quarter round function, among others, to further obscure the encoded message. PRC6 is implemented in a parallel computing model to significantly reduce overall computation time, especially important for lightweight applications. Experimental results show that the algorithm can achieve a high level of security for cloud workloads. It activates parallel mode in just seven encryption rounds, cutting calculation time to 50% in a matter of seconds. Performance evaluations against popular encryption standards also indicate that PRC6 offers promising security benefits when computational resources are limited. This hybrid approach presents a viable solution for strengthening data protection in modern cloud systems and it stand against the most popular attacks like brute force.
