A novel analog 360° phase shifter design in Ku and Ka bands

Abstract: radiation patterns of the proposed antenna in the two orthogonal planes at the two design frequencies of 0.9 and 1.8 GHz. The measured antenna gains are 2.65 and 4.1 dBi at the lower and upper resonant frequencies, respectively. As shown in the XZplane patterns, the proposed monopole with the ground shorted inset sleeve has omni-directional radiation patterns at both design frequencies. Figure 4 shows the measured return losses of the proposed monopole antenna with resonant frequency tunability. It can be seen… Show more

“…Reflection type phase shifter comprises a 3-dB hybrid couple and two tunable loads, as shown in Figure 9d. By selecting the appropriate load, this type can shift more than 360°continuously and has low insertion loss, like in [24][25][26]. From requirement of phase shifter, it is obvious that reflection type phase shifter with full 360°and continuous phase shift is the most appropriate choice for this phased array antenna system.…”

“…The analog MEMS phase shifters are large and show a low figure of merit (FOM) [47]. Passive-type monolithic microwave-integrated circuit phase shifters suffer from high insertion loss, limited resolution, and limited operating bandwidth [812]. An alternative approach is to use tunable dielectric-based phase shifters such as ferroelectrics [1316], and liquid crystal (LC) [1719].…”

“…To achieve switched beam antenna, numerous researches propose a feed network for phased arrays which integrates functions of power divider and phase shifter into one structure. Its feeding circuit consists of a branch-line coupler phase shifter using varactor diodes to independently control the output phases [5][6][7][8].…”
