A Novel Four-Arm Planar Spiral Antenna for GNSS Application

Abstract: This letter introduces a novel four-arm planar spiral antenna which provides a perfect circular polarization radiation for Global Navigation Satellite System applications. The antenna mainly consists of four parts: an Archimedes spiral radiation area, an impedance matching area composed of an appropriately sized metal coupling disc and quasi-coaxial structures, a wideband four-output-ports feed network with equal magnitude and consistent 90° phase shift, and a set of chokes with unequal height. The metal coupl… Show more

“…Table 3 illustrates the comparisons between the proposed antenna and several GNSS antennas. It is seen that the proposed antenna exhibits a compact size compared with those in [10,12]. Besides, the reported antennas in [10,12,13] are all passive antennas though they own the ability for GNSS operation.…”

“…At present, the researches on CP antenna include wideband design, high gain, wide beam, etc. To achieve wideband operation, the commonly used structures include slot antennas [3,4], spiral antennas [5,6], aperture antennas [7,8], and crossed dipoles [9,10].…”

“…Beidou navigation satellite system (BDS) is developing rapidly and is widely used in various fields, which can not only transmit location information but also support short message communication [1]. So far, many CP antennas used in global navigation satellite system (GNSS) have been reported [2][3][4][5][6]. Among them, patch antenna can achieve a compact size while generating CP, which is suitable for portable terminals.…”
