In the paper, a wideband miniaturized impedance-transforming quadrature four-feed network with a flat output phase difference is presented and applied to the design of an active integrated GNSS antenna where no extra impedance matching circuit is needed. The features of impedance transformation and flat output phase difference are achieved by the proposed miniaturized rat-race coupler. When combining the proposed rat-race coupler with two trans-directional (TRD) couplers, a four-feed network with stable sequential quadrature phase shifts is obtained in the whole GNSS band. Since the quadrature four-feed network has the feature of impedance transformation, integration with a low-noise amplifier (LNA) can be realized without extra impedance matching circuits, which reduce the overall size and losses. For validation, a simple rectangular patch is applied as the radiator, and the active prototype is fabricated. Measurement results show that over the entire GNSS band from 1.164 GHz to 1.610 GHz, the miniaturized integrated antenna exhibits a return loss of more than 10 dB, an axial ratio of less than 3 dB axial ratio, and a gain of greater than 16 dBic.

In the paper, a wideband circularly polarized (CP) filtering antenna is proposed, which is composed of four bent Vivaldi elements excited with sequential-rotated feeding technique. Since the Vivaldi element has the advantages of high gain and wide bandwidth, it is selected as the radiation element. On this basis, two cross slots are etched on the Vivaldi antenna to increase the gain at lower frequency band, and bent method which has less effect on the overall performance is applied for lowing the profile of the antenna. To realize filtering characteristic, the quadrature four-feed network consisting of one modified miniaturized filtering rat race coupler (FRC) and two compact wideband quadrature couplers is utilized as the sequential-rotated feeding for the Vivaldi elements. Design procedures of the Vivaldi antenna, the modified filtering FRC, and the quadrature four-feed network are given. For validation, a prototype is fabricated and measured. Results show that more than 60% fractional bandwidth (FBW) is achieved under the criterions of more than 10 dB return loss and less than 3 dB axial ratio. Within the AR bandwidth, the gain is in the range of 7.5 dBic ∼ 10.1 dBic. Out of the operation band, the gain sharply decreases to be lower than 5 dBic with a rectangle coefficient (|Normalized Gain −10-dB /Gain 0-dB |) of 1.25, which indicates good filtering performance.

A circularly polarized (CP) patch antenna with a fractal structure that can be applied to the BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS) is proposed. Etching two incomplete rings of different sizes with the antenna center as the center on the radiation patch generates CP. By adding a periodic structure based on the Sierpinski Carpet fractal around it, the size can be reduced while the gain is further improved. The dimension of the antenna is 0.35λ o × 0.35λ o × 0.03λ o . Measured results manifest that the impedance bandwidth (S 11 < −10 dB) is wider than 40 MHz at 1.561 GHz; the gain in 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth can reach 3.33 dBi; the beamwidth exceeds 140 • in the 3-dB AR bandwidth.
