A novel miniature multi-frequency broadband patch antenna for WLAN applications

Abstract: Miniature antennas with multi frequency and broadband features have a high demand in the field of wireless communications. This paper proposes such a patch antenna for WLAN applications in UNII-1, UNII-2, UNII-2 extended and UNII-3 bands. The specialty of the antenna is its compact size with a foot print of only 8 mm × 4 mm. The patch with a shorting pin is etched on a substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.2 and a thickness of 0.762 mm and is suspended in air 5 mm above a ground plane. The patch geometry, … Show more

“…Few years later, GA based geometric modeling of MPAs was presented [7]. Since then, GA has been significantly used to introduce broadband [10]- [23], multiband [19]- [37] and miniature [36]- [41] MPAs for various applications. Further, MPAs with highdirectivity [42], [43] broadside radiation [44] and increased gain [45] have been designed by using GA.…”

“…When such multiple resonant bands are close enough to overlap, MPAs show broadband [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] performance. Longer meandering current paths on the patch lead to miniature [18][19][20] performance. Furthermore, inphase currents result in high-directivity [21][22] MPAs.…”

“…By the cooperative use of a fork-like radiator and a ground plane with an L-shaped stub, the CPW-fed monopole-like slot antenna achieves a wide working band between 2.7 to 12.4 GHz in [7]. Various techniques used for the design of miniature antennas are proposed in [10][11][12][13][14][15]. Some of these techniques use genetic algorithms optimization [10][11][12], slots [13,14], coupling and shorting [15], etc.…”
