A Novel Multiband Directional Antenna for Wireless Communications

Abstract: Abstract-A novel multiband patch antenna with unidirectional radiation is proposed by integrating resonators in the design. The multiple frequency bands are achieved based on a coupled resonators network. The topology and design methodology are detailed. The patch not only works as the lastorder resonator of the network but also the radiating element. Using this approach, multiple bands can be achieved without changing the shape of the radiation element. In addition, the operation bands can be adjusted by adju… Show more

“…Substantial efforts [130]- [135] have been invested in the antenna design for the sake of enhancing the achievable antenna gain. Specifically, Mao et al [130] have designed a directional antenna equipped with a coupled resonator. Their design is capable of achieving 9 dBi antenna gain at a frequency of 5 GHz and it may also achieve as much as 10 dBi antenna gain at a frequency of 6 GHz.…”

“…In some designs, filters are integrated into feedlines of antennas. [1][2][3][4][5][6] As the antennas and filters can be individually designed, the design process is easier for antenna engineers. Besides, as the introduction of filters, good filtering response can also be obtained.…”

“…Thus, interference between antennas working at different bands still exists, which greatly influences the performances of communication systems. In recent years, antennas with filtering responses have become promising candidates to solve the problem, and most of them introduce filters into antenna feedlines [1][2][3][4][5], which makes it easier for integration with the whole system. Besides, the introduction of filters always contributes to good filtering responses.…”

“…In most designs of filtering antennas, very few of them can be applied in dual-polarized antenna systems with multi-band applications. At the same time, in most multiband antenna designs, filtering responses are not taken into consideration [2,14,15]. In view of this, a multi-band filtering antenna with dual-polarized performance is proposed in this paper.…”
