A Novel Photovoltaic Module Quick Regulate MPPT Algorithm for Uniform Irradiation and Partial Shading Conditions

Abstract: This study proposed a new photovoltaic module quick regulate (PVM-QR) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm, which can eliminate the disturbance problem of the hill-climbing (HC) algorithm, especially under low irradiance level and partial shading conditions (PSC). This proposed algorithm has the advantage that it only uses the detection photovoltaic module (PVM) impedance and the open-circuit voltage to simply and quickly calculate the PVM temperature, the irradiance level, and then the key factor par… Show more

“…There are many kinds of power electronic converters employed in the MPPT controller for SPPS, such as single-ended primary inductor converter (SEPIC), buck-boost, Flyback, boost converters, etc. [30][31][32][33]. The boost converter [30] is most commonly used in MPPT systems mainly because of its merit of having a simple circuit structure, easy implementation, and high efficiency.…”

“…[30][31][32][33]. The boost converter [30] is most commonly used in MPPT systems mainly because of its merit of having a simple circuit structure, easy implementation, and high efficiency. Therefore, the boost converter has been selected as the power electronic converter in this study [30].…”

“…The most used ones, perturb and observation (P&O) and incremental conductance, fall into the conventional category, in particular, inside hill-climbing algorithms (HCAs). These algorithms try to locate whether the operating point is on the left or right side of the curve, and constantly move a step towards the MPP [18]. P&O is a low-cost and reliable algorithm for MPPT.…”

“…The capacitor self-voltage regulation is a significant feature of a five-level PUC inverter; however, it is a major flaw in voltage balancing when the inverter is enlarged to generate additional step-voltage. Packed E-Cell (PEC), a new single-DC source, single-phase compact multilevel inverter topology that is more optimal than PUC, has recently been introduced [11,12]. The nine-level Packed E-Cell (PEC-9) is a single-phase, single-DC source with seven switches, one auxiliary DC-bus, and two extended horizontal DC capacitors.…”
