The aim of this study was the colour fastness investigation of the new synthetized direct symmetrical azo-stilbene dye, using two of the film field domain reference tests, namely the wet-scrub and the UV tests. The dye was incorporated in a water-based resin, and then was applied on a PCV foil. The film colour parameters were determined before and after 200 wet-scrub cycles. Further, the dye was mixed with an acrylo-polyurethanic resin and then was applied on an aluminium plate, which was exposed to UV radiation for 414 h. The film colour parameters were recorded periodically. The maxima of the reflectance spectra depend on the UV time exposure. The quality of the film was analysed by the degree of gloss. A second focus was the elimination of the dye’s traces from wastewaters (these may be resulted from the industries which apply surface coating methods), using the active carbon powder. The main operational adsorption process parameters influence were investigated. Equilibrium, kinetic and thermodynamic studies were performed. The adsorption process was confirmed by the CIEL*a*b* colour space analysis. All colour studies were investigated using UV–Vis spectroscopy.

A new kind of hetero‐bifunctional reactive dye containing 2‐ethoxy‐4‐chloro‐s‐triazine, with better activity matching with β‐hydroxyethyl sulphone sulphate at a low fixation temperature, was successfully synthesised and characterised. An ethoxy group was designed to be introduced into triazine to increase the substantivity and the reactivity of the dyes. Thereby, the fixation of mono‐s‐chlorotriazine/hydroxyethyl sulphone sulphate (KM‐type) bifunctional reactive dyes on cotton was improved, and dyeing under mild conditions with high fixation was realised. Nineteen dyes with orange, red and blue colours were synthesised and characterised by UV‐Vis and infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Synthesised dyes were dyed at 60, 75 and 90°C, respectively. Exhaustion and reactivity for all of the ethoxy‐containing KM‐type dyes was over 90% at the optimal temperature, and fixation was over 87%, which was higher than the ethoxy‐free comparative dyes. The optimal fixation temperature of ethoxy‐containing dyes was initially reduced to 75°C, and then to 60°C. Compared with comparative dyes, the wash fastness and light fastness were basically unchanged, and the wet rub fastness of the H‐acid series was reduced by one grade.

The present paper presents the obtaining and the characterization of a new complex acid dye by combining the transition metal Cu (II) with an azo acid dye, namely Amido Black 10B (C.I. 20.470), as ligand. The ligand and the resulted new azo complex were characterized by FT/IR spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, AAs spectrometry, thermal analysis, and PXRD spectrometry. The structure of the ligand and the structure of the new synthesized copper complex were elucidated by all the above mentioned analysis methods. The formation of the azo metal complex with Cu(II) was confirmed by UV-Vis spectrum. Thermogravimetric and spectral analysis reveal its different stability in the air and nitrogen atmosphere, with high nitrogen stability. The PXRD analysis shows crystalline structure for the copper complex. At the same time, the color analysis was performed for the ligand and the synthesized complex in powder by means of UV-Vis CIEL*a*b* color space parameters, under the CIE recommended illuminants: D65 (natural day light), A (incandescent light) and F2 (fluorescent light) under the standard 10� observer angle. An important color phenomenon, namely metamerism, was highlighted for the complex, as well. Due to the presence of the Cu (II) ions, this azo complex presents a different color, calculated by the color differences AE*ab and AC*, a superior saturation and color strength than its ligand.
