Studying the removal of rhodamine B (RB) dye by using zeolite 13X molecular sieves supported by Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles (denoted as Fe 2 O 3 -13X) is the main objective of this study. Fe 2 O 3 -13X was synthesized and modified by the addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). e prepared Fe 2 O 3 -13X was characterized by XRD, TEM, SEM, and zeta potential. e effects of the solution pH, SDS amount, contact time, initial dye concentration, and adsorbent dosage on the removal efficiency of RB were studied. A maximum removal efficiency of 99.3% was achieved. e adsorption equilibrium data of RB were fitted using the Freundlich model, yielding the maximum adsorption capacity of 89.3 mg/g. e findings revealed that the RB adsorption onto Fe 2 O 3 -13X modified with SDS (Fe2O3-13X-Ms) was described by a pseudo-second-order kinetic equation. e results reported in this paper indicate that a high RB removal percentage was attained by adding SDS to Fe 2 O 3 -13X.

The improvement in the treatment efficiency of diluted effluents is one of the great challenges faced by electrochemical technology nowadays. In the present work, it is aimed to develop an electrochemical cell for the simultaneous concentration and degradation of ionic organic pollutants. This combined cell (so called EDEO device) integrates the concentration of the organic by electrodialysis (ED) with its electrooxidation (EO). For the particular case of the 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), the performance of the cell has been tested with two anode materials (boron-doped diamond, BDD and mixed mineral oxides, MMO) and with two supporting electrolytes in order to explore four combinations that are expected to cover a wide range of possible actual scenarios. Results demonstrate that the combined EDEO process exhibits a degradation rate and a mineralization current efficiency markedly higher than the equivalent EO device when working with MMO anodes, either with NaCl or with Na2SO4. It was checked that the use of a BDD anode clearly increases the efficiency and the rate of the treatment due to the formation of strong oxidants. In this case, the effect of working with the combined EDEO in the rate of 2,4-D degradation is negligible because the 2,4-D transport rate becomes comparable to the degradation rate, being the combined process unable to generate a concentration greater than that accounted in the single EO device.

Lately, there has been an increase in dye manufacturing, resulting in increased environmental pollution. Recent studies show a wide availability of usage adsorbents, including banana peels, potatoes, algae, etc. Food and Drug Administration prohibited the use of Rhodamine B (RhB) for its toxicity and harmful effects. Therefore, this study presents a wide range of non-conventional low-cost alternative adsorbents to remove RhB dye from wastewater. It has been observed that the mechanism of the dye adsorption is focused on kinetics, isotherm, and thermodynamics models, which depend on the chemical nature of the materials and various physicochemical experimental conditions such as solution pH, initial dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, and temperature of the system. The kinetic data of adsorption of RhB dye usually follow the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. Several studies revealed that Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models are frequently used to evaluate the adsorption capacity of the adsorbents. Furthermore, thermodynamic examination showed that RhB adsorption was endothermic and unconstrained in nature. Thus, both photocatalytic degradation and adsorption methods offer good potential to remove RhB dye from industrial effluents. The work is in progress to evaluate the possibility of using other modified waste biomass for industrial pollution control.
