A Novel Structure Applied to the Permeable Brick Paving System and its Decontamination Performance

Abstract: To improve the pollutant removal efficiency of the permeable brick paving system, a novel structure applied to the base layer was introduced, and its decontamination performance was researched. Suspended solids (SS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia nitrogen (NH 4 +-N), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP) and heavy metals (Cu, Zn, and Pb) in the influent and effluent were measured, and the role and mechanism of the fillers inside the novel structure were discussed by changing the type and size of t… Show more

“…For COD, high efficiency of removal has been observed prewashed and layered samples such as V1, V2, V6 to V8 and V11, which reached 99%. It was reported elsewhere that VR is rich in iron oxides, and this increased the adsorption capacity of COD (Lin et al, 2020). Other parameters showed no effect or a slight increase in COD content (Figure 6).…”

“…Measuring the performance of CPB in terms of compressive strength and density is an essential parameter for evaluating its quality [24,25]. The general guidelines for determining CPB compressive strength values follow laboratory testing standards using the cube test method with specific dimensions according to Lin et al [26]. However, testing with the cube method is more complicated than the block test method.…”

“…In recent years, permeable brick pavements have become one of the most frequently used low impact development (LID) techniques [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. This infiltration-based technology is comprised of structural layers with relatively high porosity to allow rainwater to pass through its surface brick and underlying structure.…”
