A numerical study on the fluid flow and thermal characteristics inside the scrubber with water injection

Abstract: New technologies have been adopted by the marine industry to control the air emission from ship. Wet scrubbers have found widespread use in cleaning contaminated gas streams by the application of scrubbing of marine engine exhaust gases by spraying sea-water and thus develop their ability to remove particulates like SO X for pollution free environment. In real case problems, to control the emission of SO X in scrubber, the temperature of the flue gases should be dropped down by spraying sea-water droplets whic… Show more

“…Therefore, the design of apparatus to achieve high gas liquid mass transfer rate and the development of high efficiency reagents have long been the main focus. In the research on the gas absorption process, different absorbing solutions including inorganic liquids (e.g., water, seawater, , sodium solution, , potassium carbonate solution, calcium slurry, NaClO 2 ), organic liquids (e.g., MEA-ionic liquids, MEA solution, mixtures of methyldiethanolamine and 2-(1-piperazinyl)-ethylamine (MDEA/PZEA), MDEA-based nanofluid, potassium argininate (PA) solutions, mixtures of 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol and piperazine, Selexol, polyvinylidene fluoride) and mixtures of organic and inorganic liquids (aqueous ammonia+piperazine blended solution) have been developed. The involvement of different solution complexes the chemical reactions in the gas absorption process.…”

“…Moreover, Kumaresh Selvakumar and colleagues [8] analyzed the interaction between drops and hot gas streams. They explored how water droplets absorbing SO 2 can significantly cool combustion gases due to their evaporation requirements.…”
