A performance‐emission tradeoff study of a CI engine fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG)/diesel–ethanol‐PPME blend combination

Abstract: In the present study, a blend of 45% diesel, 15% ethanol and 40% Pongamia pinata methyl ester (PPME) has been used as pilot fuel for CNG dual fuel operation in a single cylinder CI engine along with CNG as the primary fuel. The intake manifold of an existing engine is slightly modified for indirect injection of CNG into the engine cylinder. The results are compared with the pilot diesel operation with same CNG injection strategies. It is found that the pilot operation of the blend is instrumental in increasing… Show more

“…Alcohol to dual fuel diesel engine can be delivered in few ways. The most popular is alcohol injection to the intake port in the vicinity of the inlet valve or direct injection of alcohol into the cylinder as mixture with diesel fuel . The use of biodiesel–alcohol mixture in a diesel engine further improves the combustion process.…”

“…In this method, DU is the total uncertainty of a given quantity Q, which has been enumerated by using equation (1). [30][31][32][33][34] Tables 3 and 4 demonstrate the percentage of uncertainty of the performance parameters and the accuracy of the measurements of AVL DIGAS 444 gas analyser, 30 respectively…”

“…The lower CO emission with Biodiesel blended fuel has also been stated by Shehata. 13 The majority of the researchers [14][15][16][17][18] have also utilized Biodiesel to reduce the dependency on diesel fuel and sustain the diesel power train.…”
