“…The model above, discretized using the meshfree method, has been verified and validated against experimental results on uniform corrosion in [6], pitting corrosion in [5], crevice corrosion in [7], intergranular corrosion in [9], and galvanic corrosion in [8]. The FCBM solution for the above model has been introduced in [21], where results have been also validated against experiments.…”

“…A different approach to modeling pitting corrosion has been introduced by Chen and Bobaru in 2015 [4], and further advanced in [5]. PD models for other types of corrosion have been introduced as well, including: uniform corrosion [6], pitting corrosion with lacy covers [5], crevice corrosion [7], and galvanic corrosion [8], intergranular corrosion [9], and stress-dependent corrosion [6].This peridynamic (PD) model treats the problem as dissolution and diffusion in the solid interface/electrolyte system, rather than just as a diffusion problem with a moving interface, as it has generally been addressed in the past. In this way, the PD corrosion model allows autonomous propagation of the corrosion front, with no need of tracking its location.…”

“…To obtain smoother pits, we need a higher resolution than that used in the uniform corrosion example. The discretization resolution along the three Cartesian directions is 2 8 , 2 8 , 2 6 which results in In this example, the corrosion environment is the same as the experiments in [29]. The metal sample is 304L stainless steel and it is surrounded by 0.1 M NaCl solution.…”

“…The PD models have been frequently used in many practical problems. A range of cutting-edge industrial applications in composite material deformation [4,5,6,7], corrosion [8,9,10,11,12], damage prediction [13,14,15,16,17] and crack simulation for a variety of materials [18,19,20,21,22] can be found in the literature.…”
