A perspective on the impact on safety of the rate of change of technology used in patient care

Abstract: The application of electronic medical technology not only increased the capabilities of medical staff to care for patients but also brought some new safety-related risks and systems engineering issues, and technology management programs have evolved over the years in response. Software based medical technology should increase capabilities as well, and their impact on technology management programs needs examination.
