A Phenotypic Analysis of Regulatory T Cells and Uterine NK Cells from First Trimester Pregnancies and Associations with HLA‐G

Abstract: The NK subset in the placental bed displays a unique phenotype that may be influenced by mHLA-G on trophoblast cells and locally accumulated sHLA-G in the uterus.

“…Interestingly the CD4 C ILT2 C , CD8 C ILT2 C and CD8 low T cells found in tumor areas are known in the literature as suppressor cells. 23,24,25 One can hypothesize that in such tumor regions where these suppressor cells predominate, the anti-tumor response will be particularly inhibited. Thus, our results show that each tumor area will develop specific escape mechanisms from immunological attack.…”

“…Finally, a correlation was found between uterine sHLA-G and the fraction of KIR2DL4+ uterine NK cells. The authors hypothesize that the phenotype of uterine NK cells may be influenced by HLA-G on trophoblast cells and by sHLA-G in the uterus [ 47 ].…”

“…Interestingly, there were no differences in CD8 + T cells among the sample origins or the obstetrical study groups. The RPB taken immediately after delivery may reflect maternal-fetal interface blood with the potential mixture of maternal blood [39]. We named it as "retro placental blood" in this study.…”
